Ah, fame. Jean-Jacques Candelier, member for the Nord, will be strutting around at the French National Assembly. A theatre play, to be staged in Paris this coming October, is inspired in part… by his combat for goldfish!
“Jean-Jacques Candelier, the Goldfish Whisperer…“. Keen readers of DailyNord will remember a short news item that appeared on our site (and picked up by Pensées d’Outre-Politique) in May 2011. The communist member of the French National Assembly would like to direct “the attention of the Secretary of State responsible for Trade, Crafts, Small and Medium Enterprises, Tourism, Services and Consumers, to the welfare of goldfish and their exploitation.”
Two members address the question of goldfish
Two years on, he will no doubt be delighted to learn that his intervention inspired a play, which will start running in Paris this October. “In fact, the idea for the play came to me thanks to another event”, Hadrien de Corneillan explains, who co-wrote the play with Nathalie Guyot. “A few weeks after Jean-Jacques Candelier’s question, another member, Michel Zumkeller (UMP), presented a similar bill to protect goldfish. Five articles on this appeared in the space of two weeks, and then it just snowballed. ” The scriptwriter feels that the media machine got carried away for such a trivial anecdote and decided to write a play about it… before coming across Jean-Jacques Candelier’s name while doing background research.
The intriguing question of “How to Win an Election with 1 Lama, 7 Hens and two Goldfish?”- “It’s about a female member of the National Assembly, on the wane, who, during an interview, is lost, and suddenly thinks about a project dreamed up by her young assistant, which she throws to the press hounds. And the media go nuts about this bill to save goldfish. But another member wants to steal the passing of the bill for his own ends.”
Jean-Jacques Candelier in the public?
No one knows if Jean-Jacques Candelier will nip out to see the play during a full parliamentary session. Notwithstanding, for our readers who will make the trip to Paris, the play starts on the 09 October at the Theatre Le Proscenium in the 11th district of Paris. And perhaps one day in the constituency of the honourable member who loves goldfish?
